What is a first tooth party, and why is it held?

A first tooth party (“diş buğdayı”) is a traditional Turkish gathering for a child who has cut their first tooth. It is held with the wish that the child will have strong teeth, a long and healthy life, and a life of plenty. Close relatives and family friends are usually invited.

What is served at a first tooth party?

First the wheat dish that gives the tradition its name, then other food prepared in our kitchen. At one of our gatherings the wheat dish was served with bulgur salad (kısır), rose-shaped börek, dolma in olive oil, içli köfte and cake. We will talk through your menu together.

First tooth, first celebration

The first tooth party, called “diş buğdayı” in Turkish, is one of our oldest traditions. When a baby's first tooth appears, the family comes together to celebrate this small but important step. At our party house in Ümraniye we turn the tradition into a warm gathering, decorated in a theme that suits the meaning of the day. We prepare the decorations to match the theme you choose and, if you wish, create a boutique theme just for you.

Why is it celebrated?

The gathering is held with the wish that the child will have strong teeth, a long and healthy life, and a life of plenty. Close relatives and family friends are usually invited, and they bring gifts for the little one who has cut their first tooth. In short, it is a day when the family offers the baby its good wishes.

How does the day go?

Guests are first served the wheat dish that gives the tradition its name, followed by other food prepared in our kitchen. Then comes the moment everyone has been waiting for: objects decorated to match the theme are placed in front of the baby, who is left to choose one.

We prepare the food in our own kitchen with quality ingredients. A guest at one of our gatherings described the day like this: alongside the wheat dish there was bulgur salad (kısır), rose-shaped börek, dolma in olive oil, içli köfte and cake; everyone ate and drank, then had fun in the disco area. We will talk through the menu for your own gathering together.

For your guests

In the section reserved for adults you can host your guests as comfortably as you would at home. Our venue has separate sections for parents and for children, and a screen in the parents' section where the children can be watched live.
